My research focuses on social movements and new media studies. Current projects include: a book on the internet and civil society in China, a book on the social impact of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and a study of China's emerging environmental movement. In Barnard, I have taught the following courses: First-Year Seminar: Revolutionary Movements; Critical Approaches to East Asia in the Social Sciences; China's Cultural Revolution in History and Memory; Civil Society, Public Sphere, & Popular Protest in Contemporary China; and Contemporary Chinese Culture and Society.
