Using Adobe Acrobat Reader
Besides just reading the .pdf / Reader file where you've opened it, say in Lehman Computer Lab, you may also print it and/or save it to a floppy disk. Also, for easier reading, you can enlarge the appearance of the .pdf file when you open it. Sound familiar?
Depending on the quality (resolution and size) of the monitor which you are using, the Reader file may look pretty good or not so good. Fortunately the user can increase the size of the file so that the text is larger and more legible. Even so, it can be taxing to read extended texts from a computer screen and most of us like to have a hard copy to take with us and markup. Users can print the .pdf file and/or save it to a floppy disk.
Manipulating the Reader File: Look at the toolbar, just below the menu bar at the top of Reader window, and you will see a set of arrows that advance the pages back and forth. With the hand to the left of the arrows, you can move the page you currently have opened. The hand will not change pages, only slide the current page around inside the window. The magnifying glass icons between the arrows and the hand will increase and decrease the size of the page. When you increase the size of the page, the hand becomes handy for moving the page around so you can read all of it. Now look at the lower left of the Reader window and you will see a magnifier icon with a percentage. Click on it and a small window opens in the center of the screen offering you size percentages from which to choose. At the bottom of this percentages window you may choose "fit width" for the size which precisely fits your screen.
Printing: Once you've opened the Reader file click on the printer icon or select "File" in the menu bar and select "Print".
Saving: To save a .pdf file to your floppy disk, do not open the Reader (do not click on the links that open the Reader files). All you need to do is move the mouse over the link so the little hand appears. Leave the hand on the link and click the right mouse button. A small menu will appear with several choices. Choose "Save link as" (says something like that). You should now see the "Save as" dialogue box with the name of the file at the top left. Now, go to the bottom right box labeled "Drives", click on the little drop-down arrow and select "a:", the floppy drive. Click "O.K." This process will save the pdf file to your floppy disk.
